Last night I ran my first, small edition of this print I've been working on over the past couple of weeks. I wanted to do a practice print of something small and detailed. I decided what better image to practice on than one of my first synth, my beloved korg monologue.

The absolute disaster area that was the top of my desk last night. I'll do my best: Center frame is the wood bed of a woodzilla printing press. It is covered with strips of blue masking tape that have been used to mark out measurements for registration. A set of metal tabs are taped down to the left side of the bed. Resting on the bed is a small print of a korg monologue synthesizer. A more detailed description of the print is on the other image in this post. Next to the print is a very small carving knife with a wooden handle. Just above the print, also on the print bed, is a small piece of linoleum carved with the black lines of the synthesizer image, the final layer of the print. Surrounding the press is an absolute riot of STUFF, including: A pink pen, another print of the same image, multiple metal cans of printing ink in various colors, test prints, USB cables, a medicine bottle, a light therapy box, more USB cables, a blue speed square, random bits of junk mail, midi cables, a small white rag covered in smears of printing ink, and god knows what else.
A very small print of a korg monologue synthesizer. It is angled toward the viewer so that the leftmost key is closest, and the whole synth is rendered in perspective. The case is blue, with white keys, dark gray black keys and knobs, and a wood panel across the back of the synth that is only just visible in the print. The lines of the drawing are black, giving a bit of a cel-shaded look to the image. The short key bed only has 25 smallish keys, and there are 16 knobs and 11 switches on the panel above the key bed, along with several buttons. These were very time-consuming to carve so small :P There are little bits of white here and there where the ink was not able to fully reach into the crevices of the paper, but the overall impression is solid. The image is printed on home-made paper that is light-gray and fairly coarse in texture. It is ~4x6in (~10x16cm), and the print itself is roughly 2x4in (~5x10cm). I made the paper from a bunch of junk mail and am very pleased with myself for starting to use my own paper in my prints. And I've only just realized as I write this that I forgot to flip the image that I used to lay out my linoleum, so it's a mirror of the actual layout of the real synth. Don't tell anyone, it'll be our little secret!
