Yay, rain! We were never as dry as many places, but after a couple of weeks of mostly above average temperatures and just one rain, things were a bit dry. Fireweed leaves in the rain, close view. The leaves are long and narrow, with a distinct light vein up the middle and faint small veins to each side in a complex more or less regular patternn. The leaves have a bit of waxy coating, which combines with the overcast light to make them look more blue-grey than green. Tiny water droplets are scattered here and there across the central horizontal leaf, pooling in spots.
One huge flouncy flower and a single round bud of an old Peony cultivar. among dark green leathery pointed leaves. The insanely doubled and redoubled petals (no sign of a centre or sexy flower bits) are barely pink to white with water drops clinging and specks of dust or debris on the lower parts.
