Today’s historic #photo of the day: Two 6-car broad gauge Hitachi suburban electric #trains at Jolimont, Vic, August 31 1983.
Jolimont is the first station out of the Melbourne CBD on the electrified suburban lines to Hurstbridge and Mernda. Situated just 1700m east of Flinders Street, Jolimont station serves the suburb of East Melbourne, and is one of two stations serving the MCG which is just a short walk away in the parklands at right.
A view taken from an overbridge looking down onto a railway station with two tracks running between side platforms. On each platform stands a polychrome brick station building, each with an awning projecting to the platform edge. We can see the roof of an electric train standing at the platform at left, and another train is approaching the station on the other track at right.
