I'm still trying to wrap my head around the dedication to create utterly grandiose over-designed stations buildings -both in the city, and at local stops- where the actual platforms and places people wait are reminiscent of a flooded Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hideout. 🥷 🐢 🚂

Union Station has a large hall with seating for a handful of people and shit acoustics. It's not a place you want to be: as shown by it mostly being empty.

There's the courtesy big US flag to remind Americans they're not, in fact, in Venezuela.

Same station. An actual platform. This is for a large part an enclosed structure so the diesel fumes can easily enter your brain.

People actually wait in low and narrow corridors in-between the grand hall and this stuff.

In the suburbs you get the same dynamic: friendly well maintained and rather large buildings that are mostly inaccessible while people wait eithee outside or in narrow cramped waiting areas with no standardization.

Again. The double decker prison on wheels does look kinda cool. If Kevin Costner had ever done a part 3 in the apocalypse series (Mail Man Pony movie, Fish Man Trimaran movie) he could've done it with these trains. Maybe as a spinoff from Mad Max

Maybe as a spinoff from Mad Max "Last Metra train into thunderdome", delivering a load of burger buns from Chicago to New York via an America hit by desertification
