If we want to think about global economics and ecology, we need to think in wholes. We need to think the opposite of Prime Minister Thatcher who said, "There is no such thing as society." But we need to think of wholes as "less," as fragile and contingent. Ecological beings such as lifeforms and ecosystems and the biosphere are also wholes whose parts outnumber them and are disparate, not "greater." Humans are made of all kinds of nonhuman bits and pieces—it's called evolution. (21/24)
