Unfortunately, I had to do some pruning, so I couldn't save these beautiful #galls. #Bedeguar galls, chemically induced by Diplolepis rosae on #roses, built a complex community of #insects and even #fungi. Learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplolepis_rosae
The wasp needs no males for reproduction: the females use #Parthogenesis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenogenesis

A cut rose twig with many big rose bedeguar/moss galls. These are fluffy balls with a moss-like structure, in colour shades from bright green to rose-red.
A section through a gall shows a cut cell for the larvae. One gall has several parts like this.
A red gall photographed with zoom, presenting its moss-feather-like plant structure which is induced chemically as a distortion of an unopened leaf axillary or terminal bud by a Diplolepis rosae wasp.
The mossy structure of the galls is a good hiding place for other insects like this small black beetle.
