Forecast map of Tropical Storm Gaemi issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center on July 20, 2024 at 0900 UTC. The system is centered east of Luzon, Philippines, and is expected to pass through Ishigakijima, Japan, on Wednesday July 24 in the afternoon, before skirting the northern tip of Taiwan and heading towards the east coast of China. Current wind speeds at 30kts/35mph/56kph. Expected peak wind speeds at 100kts/115mph/185kph with gusts up to 125kts/144mph/232kph. The JTWC still classifies Gaemi as a Tropical Depression, but the Japan Meteorological Agency, which is responsible for naming typhoons in the Northern West Pacific, has already upgraded it to Tropical Storm.
