The track was duplicated in the 1950s to support more frequent suburban trains as far as Marino, and in the late 1960s the line was truncated from Willunga to Hallett Cove. In the 1970s it was extended via a more westerly route to Christie Downs and Noarlunga Centre, which was its southern terminus when this photo was taken in 1985. At that time, Redhen and Jumbo diesel railcars ran semi-express trains to Noarlunga Centre, and all-stops local trains between Adelaide and Brighton called at Hove.
