Xcode do as dumb of box of rocks...
You can have an .xcodeproj or a .xcworkspace file.
Imagine that if you accidentally opened a .xcworkspace file and pressed the "build" button, you would get a message that says "Sorry, I can't do that. Please use the .xcodeproj file".
No Xcode lets you open that .xcworkspace file and just lets the build process fail, with some obscure error without any indication that it's your fault and set you out on a wild goose chase...
