Because Democrats must represent all the pro-democracy people in the nation, it’s tempting to shape the party to the interests of exiled Republicans. Unlike the liberals I think of as the future of the Democrats—young people, leftists, the really marginalized—exiled Republicans organize, vote, and just generally do democracy, as opposed to the youngs, who are lukewarm about democracy. BUT I still feel Democrats need to appeal to young people, not exiled Republicans.
