I’ve been relying on my VPN’s ad and tracker blockers lately, because these ads, I’m pretty sure by Google, have found a way around the multiple kinds of blockers I use in the browser.
Here’s Speed Test smothered in ads, ad blockers on. Then here’s Speed Test with my VPN’s blockers on.
Look how stupid web pages are with ads turned off. How much space is wasted on them!
Speedtest.com’s test page. There are 4 ads creating a structure around the sides and top, taking up close to 50% of the page. One left side is for Gatorade. The top ad is for Meyer’s Clean Day. The two ads on the right side, stacked on top of each other, are the exact same thing, for some dumb thing not even worth describing.
The same Speedtest.com page, now with ads properly blocked. Vast meadows of open, unused space surround a comically small internet speed test dial.
