Things I learned from a magazine at the Beauty Parlor in the Village:
Asparagus berries are poison. A toxic steroid is concentrated in the red berries that causes vomiting and diarrhea. Asparagus stalks themselves may cause irritation or a rash. Ancient cultures considered asparagus an aphrodisiac, presumably because they were sex perverts and asparagus spears kinda look like dongs.
Stupid thing is nearing five years old, so I’m hoping for some harvestable stuff here soon.
