I was in the contrary minority who didn’t like Conversations With Friends when it came out. I abandoned it about 20 pages in and had no reason after that to pick up Normal People. So I only reluctantly listened to Sally Rooney reading her story 'Opening Theory' when it just turned up on the New Yorker podcast and it is brilliant. So there’s yet another thing I was wrong about in life.
