Jo Maugham described the chilling effect of the GC-led campaign that’s infested both the media and key parts of Westminster so well. It’s (his words) the fear of “punishment beatings”. It needs no further description because anyone observing the workings of the mob online knows what that evocative expression refers to. At some point the dam will break though. And then there’s an awful lot of people, afraid to speak out in this climate, who may have things to say.
