Morning walk to the pond. We startled a doe coming down to drink who walked up behind us. All three of us froze and carefully inspected each other before determining there was no threat, and moving on. Pleased to find a blooming monkey flower at the stream and large slug feasting on a mushroom. Cool but humid and sticky. Good slug weather.
An abandoned mill pond in New England, US surrounded by reeds and grasses where a stream enters and forested uplands. The grey sky is reflected in the olive colored still waters.
A white tailed deer doe stands hesitantly in a forest, ears forward looking at the unexpected humans who startled her as she approached the pond. One leg is raised, poised to flee as she weighs her options.
