Fabulous, hot 14 mile walk on part of the South Downs. Saw a fair few nice butterflies, but only armed with a very ancient iPhone SE and very non-compliant lepidoptera, the quality is ropey! But you can make them out.

1) Filthy, frisky Chalkhill Blues (must be the heat!)
2) Single Chalkhill Blue
3) Marbled White
4) Brown Argus
.

Two Chalkhill Blue butterflies mating. The larger female is to the left, the male is to the right. They are atop a flower and both facing down and away from each other, with their mating equipment seemingly attaching them together. The female is brown with lots of white circles with black centres. The male is a silvery blue-grey also with white circles with black centres. The male's abdomen and head are visible and they are also pale silvery blue.

Slightly fuzzy mid-distance shot of a small Chalkhill Blue butterfly on an unidentified plant. It has its wings partially open. It is shimmering silvery blue with a white fringed edge to the wing. just inside the white edge are rows of white circles with dark centres which follow the line of the wing edge.

A marbled white butterfly on knapweed. It faces right. It is medium sized, about 5cm span with wings partially open. The wings are checkerboard black and white. The wing edges are slightly scalloped and lined with a white edge and then a black line following it just inside.

A slightly fuzzy close up shot of a very small 2cm Brown Argus butterfly with its wings fully open. It is a rich, sumptuous chocolate brown with orange moon shapes or small n shapes running all along just inside the wing edges which are fringed in white. On each upper wing there is a single black dot. The head and antennae are fuzzy from being a bit out of focus
