And then our eyes met across an empty street

Vestergade, mid-city Aarhus. Looking straight at two old buildings with adjacent cafes. The main building is deep yellow. On the street, a hodge-podge of pavement tables and chairs, empty right now; a café sign, a road sign. Everything we see is a bit messy and jumbled, in a nice mid-city way. In the middle of it all, a huge wooden double door between the cafés demands our attention. It has been painted black with a giant stylised futuristic green face on it. The face is incongruously covered in prosaic signs a la ‘please don’t block this entrance’. The face has no eyes but seems to be staring straight at you. An unsettling effect.
