It’s like wandering through an art gallery as we go about our daily business around the city. The artwork is so lively and cheerful and colourful. And the artist put so much thought and detail into the individual motifs so that each painting represents real life in the immediate neighbourhood.
Fair play to ‘JW ‘24’ and also to the council staff, or whoever it was, that came up with this idea to brighten up our streets.

Triangle between roads that meet in Frederiksbjerg, a mid-city mixed-use neighbourhood, Aarhus. Beyond: picturesque centuries-old six-storey terraced apartment blocks characteristic of this area. We can see bike paths, parked bikes, residential rubbish-sorting stations, traffic signs. All the usual city centre paraphernalia. On this triangular verge: a pedestrian traffic light button and a street name sign: Ålborggade. Central to it all, popping with colour: a utility box painted in vivid deep yellows, pinks and blues. The artwork is local landmarks. Diving platforms at the nearby swimming arena. The unique shape of nearby Sankt Lukas, a 1920s church shaped as a 48-metre stone rectangle that's topped by a thick 35-metre oblong tower. Now follows same context description for all photos in this thread, if you want to skip. A council utility box for electrical and technical stuff, about half a metre by half a metre in size, normally grey metal box, typically dirty and covered in graffiti and stickers. They have been transformed all across the city in recent weeks, painted on all four sides and on top with images that reflect something in the immediate neighbourhood. Artist signature: J W ’24.
At a crossroads in Aarhus, sun shining, sky blue. Beyond, a glimpse of a modern red-brick church. The gable wall is white with a black cross on it. Beyond, low and tall buildings, a cyclist, parked cars. Left, an electricity pylon is casting its shadow at us. At our feet, a utility box painted a lovely deep sky blue. It depicts scenes from Den Gamle By open-air history museum and the botanical gardens, both of which are close by. We see an old pavilion; an old windmill; the botanic garden’s greenhouse dome; the park’s natural amphitheatre; medieval timbered houses. All sketched like line drawings in blue. A kind of ethereal effect. Now follows same context description for all photos in this thread, if you want to skip.
