One day, Middelfart is going to open an art museum and this sign will become the greatest tourist attraction in all of Denmark.

Beyond, framed by leafy tree branches, a section of a medieval half-timbered brick building in the lovely town of Middelfart, Denmark. It is painted a lovely buttercup yellow, crisscrossed by thick black planks of timber. There are two rows of multi-pane windows with white frames. To our right, a tall metal green pole. From it, a fingerpost sign points in across the whole image, filling the foreground in front of our eyes. It is elegant. Deep green with a white border. To the right edge: that little international sign for 'museum'. The one I assume was designed with a Western European museum filled with colonial loot in mind, because it's a line drawing of a Greek temple (with no marbles). The sign directs us to Middelfart's excellent local history museum. It's the kind of sign people enjoy reading with English-speaking eyes. Middelfart Museum. The Museum of Middle Farts. If it were an art museum, it would be even more fun for our inner teenager to say in English. The Danish for art is: Kunst. Middelfart Kunstmuseum.
