After a week of watching, I can confirm that the athletic skills needed for surfing absolutely qualifies it as an Olympic sport; but Christ, I've never seen something so fucking tedious to watch live. For those who don't know, a surfing competition basically consists of a bunch of people laying around on their boards doing nothing for giant 15-minute periods, then suddenly surfing for ten seconds, then going back to laying on their boards for another 15 minutes.
