Postscript 2: Apparently this happens when you have auto update turned OFF. Yes, that’s not a typo: OFF.
When auto update is allowed, it doesn’t bother you first it just does it.
When it’s off, you get prompted at every new release to install
Now (instantly),
Later (when it next is turned off),
or Details (which allows you to skip this version but not to just, you know, not update until you want it).
