There's a refuctoring that takes a simple Boolean expression and adds "&& true", and then constructs a Treasure Hunt around that "true" so that it's very difficult to tell that it will always return true.
I saw code that did that for real, and it was the inspiration for Refuctoring.
A contractor had extracted 11 years of highly paid work out of my client for that kind of shit. That's over 2 million quid in today's money.
