The story centers on the female protagonist's recovery from egregious physical injuries and emotional trauma. It does this in a nuanced and compelling way. There's some magical healing but there's also LOTS of mundane "let's use accessibility devices to improve your life while we figure out what magical healing is feasible." The protagonist's recovery never hinges on "making her not disabled", either wholly or in part.
