Anyway, while it's at work, the barnacle starts laying loads of eggs. What it needs is for someone to look after them. And rather helpfully, crabs do this. Female crabs normally carry their eggs around under their abdomen to look after their brood. A crab infected by the crab hacker will also do this, except the brood is of tiny little baby crab hackers.
A male crab would *never* usually carry eggs around. The division of decapod childcare labour doesn't work like that.
