I have an inherent problem with positioning the public sector in service of the private. The public sector's role is to serve the people and guarantee basic rights and freedoms.
The underlying assumptions framing this World Bank conference, 'Public Institutions for Development: Enabling the Private Sector', are in keeping with broader Bank philosophy but deeply saddening.
