The Lophura diardi or Siamese Fireback, also referred to as Diard’s Fireback or Kai Fah Phaya Lo meaning: “Lord Lo’s Pheasant,” is indigenous to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. They are named in honor of French naturalist and explorer, Pierre-Médard Diard and after Phra Lo from the Thai narrative poem “Lillit Phra Lo.” These beautiful pheasants have grey plumage, ornamental black crest feathers, crimson legs and feet, long, curved, blackish tails, and striking reddish-brown eyes.
Here is a striking photograph of Diard’s Fireback, taken by Alex Vargas.
Here is a different Siamese Fireback, standing by the side of what appears to be a road.
Here is Lord Lo’s Pheasant, standing in a wooded area.
And here is another one, spreading his or her wings out.
