Controversial opinion: the world would be better if almost every program used garbage collection
Modern, sophisticated garbage collectors are fast and parallel and asynchronous!
For good garbage collectors, the perf hit is small to nonexistent, and compared to the security / robustness benefits, not to mention the ease of authoring, it pays for itself
