Of course there are many times authorities have devoted their lives to garbage that proved wrong. But "quantum physics" will prove to be the greatest of them all.
It is not that the results are wrong. The garbage is the claim that this is a special form of physics requiring distinct logic and mathematics. That is nonsense. The problems are perfectly ordinary physics that can be solved by ordinary methods.
