AOC was thinking of getting herself in the news, rather than of helping the party, when she said "senior Democrat" (who might not actually exist) should retire, rather than what she should have said.
What she should have said is obvious, if you think in PARTY terms instead of (as AOC does) getting oneself in the news by saying inflammatory things. You say, "No serious Democrat would say such a thing", or something to that effect, which promotes party unity, not division, like AOC did.
