It really bothers me when people are judgemental about what other people eat. Food is something deeply personal, connected to a person's culture, family, childhood memories. You're judging all those things when you point out that a dish looks bland, disgusting, whatever. Just refrain from commenting and move on. (I've frequently heard these kinds of comments about German cuisine, which often is comparatively simple and straightforward.)
