There is a genre of fiction called "body horror" that is about people whose bodies are twisted or become transformed in some hideous and horrifying way. Examples include David Cronenberg's "The Fly", Neil Blomkamp's "District 9", and HP Lovecraft's "The Shadow over Innsmouth". The thought of one's body becoming something completely alien makes people feel very unsettled, even when it's not happening to them. For transgender people, though, it's not fiction. It's the reality we live through from the day we are born. Our bodies are wrong and feel alien and horrifying to us. And most of society wants us to stay that way and actively fights against us when we try to escape from our living nightmares.
