Umatic is even worse off. We had a halfway working deck for a while that lacked a TBC so news file tapes with lots of edits choked on it due to jumping time code. Last I checked it stopped playing altogether.
But on the plus side, remember that lone tape of Focus I found a few years back, before today’s treasure trove? I did get halfway decent encodes of it and at some point I’ll “officially” release it on our WVEC station account…
A Umatic cassette tape, labeled only “60-4” in black marker and a small sticker with “66–60” slapped on it. When I first found the tape a few years ago I had no idea what was on it. After successfully playing/digitizing it I wrote on a piece of paper the tape’s contents.
