Nigeria's kidnapping epidemic by numbers
July 2023 - June 2024

Kidnapping in Nigeria has become more lethal, with 1056 people killed in 1130 reported kidnap incidents. On average, someone is killed each time there is an attempted kidnap. It has also become lucrative as at least N1.048 billion was paid as ransoms in that period.

Zamfara is the most affected state, leading in the number of kidnap incidents (132), number of kidnap victims (1,639) and number of civilian deaths (146).
