My most controversial take might be that lawns aren't in and of themselves terrible. The problem is when people try to grow them in places they don't make sense, care way to much about having exactly one type of plant as the lawn, use a lot of chemicals, et cetera.
My underlying take is that folks need to stop acting like there is exactly one answer to a question. Like if you live in New Mexico sure encourage your neighbors to not have a lawn, if you live in New Jersey probably not so much.
