My theory for the Great Filter? Every intelligent civilisation ends up doing an experiment and accidentally causes a quantum field to flip to the vacuum energy state, obliterating everything around them at the speed of light in an unstoppable chain reaction
But they're outside our observable bubble where they would be going away from us faster than the speed of light (due to universe expansion) so the infinitely expanding vacuum they caused never reaches us
