Well, that took some time.
I decided to upgrade my unifi8 installation from 8.0.24 to 8.2.93 (via ports) which meant a mongodb upgrade from 4.4 to 6.0.
That didn't go well.
I tried everything (downgrading mongodb locally, copying the data directory over to run it against containers running 4.0, 4.4, 5.0 and 6.0 with mongod alone and mongod --repair) and nothing worked.
Fortunately (dumb luck!) unifi generates some automatic backups of the configuration so I was able to take it from there phew!
