One other area I'm finding myself desperately wanting, but struggling, to focus on is hands on project work (aka, coding and such). I’ve spent so much of the last few years leading really large teams with limited support. E.g., last was 47 engineers, with two pseudo-manager/leads (the org had an aversion to front-line managers) only covering 14 of those engineers and the rest all reporting directly to me. As much as I tried, finding time and energy to code was mostly futile.
