I tried, and failed, to select text in github.

Apparently it's not as easy as it may seem.

There is no excuse for this. There is nothing that I could do wrong, including disabling JS (which I haven't done) that makes it impossible to select text.

It is a piece of javascript code on black background. It shows a method definition named parseArcCommand and above it there is the comment describing the method.

Blue bars appear over the comment, spanning from the left margin until some distance to the right, seemingly unrelated to the span of the text itself. It appears that text is selected but the selection highlight is unaligned with the actual text.
