Is phishing really "hacking"? Using the authoritative source, which is obviously the 1995 movie Hackers (😉), it's hard to say.
They definitely deploy social engineering methods, like pretending to be employees of the target company. They call themselves "hackers", but is every technique they use considered "hacking"? Con-artists do the same kinds of things.
