You could start using #BTRFS with defaults, but if you like to dig into details, you'll want to learn how to use (or decide not to use):
- balancing
- compression
- deduplication
- defragmentation
- scrubbing
- snapshots
- TRIM support (also read about using TRIM with LUKS)
- when and where to disable copy-on-write
