So there's another side to this, and that's AI energy usage/efficiency. It's getting way better, and I'm not talking future hypothetical improvements here, but today's standard models.
Goldman Sachs pins their AI energy consumption estimates on a figure of 2.9Wh. They cite SemiAnalysis which turned out to be this article: https://www.semianalysis.com/p/the-inference-cost-of-search-disruption
If you read it, the 2.9Wh figure is suspiciously absent (and I couldn't find another source on SemiAnalysis). So where did 2.9Wh come from?
