Gaia has 2 telescopes, pointed 106.5 degrees apart. As the spacecraft rotates every 6 hours, a star is visited by the two telescopes 106.5 minutes apart.
Each telescope has a large, rectangular primary mirror with a collecting area of about 0.7 m². Three curved mirrors and 3 flat mirrors focus and repeatedly fold the light over a total distance of 35 m before it reaches the shared focal plane where the camera is located.
Data download rate = 8.7 Mbps.
