An invading army of aphids, happily slurping plant juice.

A caramel brown bug with long sticklike burnt-sugar legs stands along with many others of its kind on the green stem of a plant. The bug's body, normally a fat balloon, looks empty and shriveled. Unlike its brethren, whose needly mouthparts are inserted into the plant's stem, this bug's snout is free and partially folded under its body. Is it preparing to pierce the plant, or just in the act of pulling out, having found nothing suckable? Or is it hesitating, aimless, full of ennui, contemplating the long moments of its life, the plant's nectar no longer compelling? Sunlight shines brightly on its maple-seed wings. Behind it lies a moldy corpse.
