Have you used AIC or BIC to determine an optimal model specification (outside of classroom work)? Why or why not?
I was doing econometrics coursework before I took any serious stats, and in econ there was an emphasis on correct model specification based on theoretical links between predictors and outcomes, not necessarily model parsimony based on information metrics.
