<rant>I hate programming languages with bad and inconsistent syntax!
#\x in scheme is the character "x" but #\xA; is a newline encoded as hex. And that's not all: #\newline and friends exist so I have to read until a delimiter and then check for named characters. And stuff starting with 'x' is special cased, so more jank in the parser!
And then strings just use C-style escape sequences??? Was it that hard to make character constants use them as well?
