I also have the growing suspicion that "oh we should do that right this time!" is accomplishing what everybody hope it does and that we'd better off with just keeping the weekend-level code-exercise-for-application effort and no more. none of the "done right" things I saw (mine included) were ANY BETTER than the "let's hack this in 3 days" solutions and that practically all "software practices" but a tiny handful are completely useless (and come and go with fashion like any other technology)
