I've been using #Linux for a long time. I did a little C/C++ in the past with small apps, nothing fancy.
I was evaluating Ubuntu 22.04.4 on my Dell desktop. There really isn't much to Linux. It is barebones, not really even elegant.
On a lark, I tried installing and using Audio Recorder. It's supposed to record sound directly off your soundcard. The OGG files were created but when I used VLC to play them back they didn't play sound.
That scene has changed very, very little in 15-25+ years.
