An abandoned cicada exuvia hanging from the back of a poison ivy leaf.

If we squint our eyes we see an image divided into three regions: a diagonal border running from top right to bottom left divides the image into a leaf-green triangle on the left and a right-hand triangle of Cherenkov blue. Straddling this border is the translucent mud-brown exoskeleton of a cicada nymph, a monster hanging between heaven and earth. It clings to the green leaf with the very tips of its outstretched mantis-like arms. Its surface is worn and pitted, like a stream stone. Its former eyes are blurry transparent domes through which we see the blue background. They seem to be surprised at their fate,
