TIL you can keep extra .mailmap entries in a file outside your local git repo clone. First, make sure that the repository file is parsed:
git config mailmap.blob HEAD:.mailmap
Then add your additions.
git config mailmap.file $HOME/mailmap.extra
Both maps are parsed. The caveat is that uncommitted local changes to the .mailmap file are not taken into account. Has anyone else had the need to augment their mailmap with a stand-alone file? IOW is it worth sending a patch to Git SCM itself?
