If #football wasn't already a deeply rooted part of so many peoples identities, and was to sell itself as a new game it would never make the dent in the sports/gaming market.
The rules are heartbreakingly outdated. The current ruleset fosters stale, slow, and boring matches, dangerous play styles with high injury rates.
The air of toxic masculinity surrounding this sport in particular, is correlated with the fact that the rules reward play styles that exhibit similar values
